Work started on improvements to the town’s thoroughfare in May this year with Contractors Dawnus Construction assigned for the main phase of the project in conjunction with Denbighshire County Council. It involved the complete reconstruction of the carriageway and footways in the southern section of the high street between Wellington Road and Kinmel Street. Trees were planted and new seats and new litter bins were installed throughout.
The work completed in July just as the peak summer season kicked in. Rebecca Maxwell, Denbighshire’s head of economic and community ambition, commented at the time: “Like many high streets across the country, we know Rhyl High Street had faced some tough times recently and we were keen to do what we could to help. One of the things we can do is create a pleasant environment for shoppers and visitors and that’s what we’re doing with this scheme, having successfully identified funding to improve the look and feel of the area.”
