Creating a Cohesive Public Realm
Located on the historic site of the former Kent Street Swimming Baths, The Bath House is a significant residential development in the heart of Birmingham. Combining contemporary architecture with landscaped outdoor spaces and shared resident amenities, the scheme creates a welcoming environment for modern city living.
With a landscaped central courtyard and areas designed for relaxation, socialising and community activities, the external spaces play an important role in connecting the development’s buildings and enhancing the experience of residents.
A Versatile Palette of Concrete Paving
Collaborating with Landscape Architects’ Layer.studio and a wider client team that included Howells Architects and Contractors Winvic Construction and Velcol, Hardscape supplied an extensive selection of concrete paving materials, bringing variety, colour and texture to the scheme. The palette included Inish Rustic, Natural and Copper, alongside Melifont Natural and Charcoal and Newgrange concrete paving.
The combination of complementary tones and finishes provides flexibility across the external areas, helping define spaces and establish visual continuity throughout the development. The varied palette supports the contemporary architectural setting while providing durable, practical surfaces suited to the demands of a busy residential environment.
Integrating Permeable Paving Solutions
Adding a further dimension to the material selection, Hardscape also supplied Kellen Hydro Lineo 40 Grijs permeable concrete grass pavers. This innovative paving solution combines the structural qualities of concrete with the potential to introduce grassed surfaces, offering a distinctive alternative to conventional solid paving.
By incorporating permeable grass pavers alongside the wider concrete paving palette, the scheme demonstrates how different surface treatments can contribute to both the functionality and visual character of a landscaped environment.
A Lasting Foundation for Community Living
The Bath House brings together residential architecture, shared amenities and landscaped spaces to create a contemporary urban community on a site with a long-standing place in Birmingham’s history.
Hardscape’s contribution, through the supply of a diverse range of concrete paving and innovative permeable grass pavers, supports the creation of attractive, hard-wearing external spaces that balance appearance with everyday performance.
A considered mix of materials, textures and paving solutions, helping shape a welcoming public realm for residents to enjoy for years to come.
