holborn 4Hardscape supplied beautiful granite paving featuring bespoke bronze inlays to help transform a key commercial office space in London’s Holborn Gate. The company worked in partnership with Architects, Buckley Gray Yeoman and contractors, Farcon Construction and Stone Restoration Services to enhance the building’s prominence and visibility.

The 41,000sq commercial office space underwent an £8m transformation, including two new striking reception areas to the north and south entrances. The south entrance, significant due to its positioning next to the adjacent piazza and public café space, was fully re-landscaped with external seating areas, integrated feature lighting and planting zones.

Hardscape worked with the team to find a solution to unify all elements of the design, deciding on a pallet of 3-toned granite, including Kobra and Royal White flamed paving and Crystal Black cladding, copings and treads. Bespoke Crystal Black flamed pavers containing reflective bronze inlays were inspired by the gold mosaics overhanging each level of the building and act as strong directional indicators towards the south entrance.

holborn 2The shiny inlays were also used as a safety mechanism to highlight the step edges. Other careful measures introduced into the landscaping included level access via granite-clad ramps, to ensure Part M compliance – a regulation to ensure that people are able to access and use buildings and their facilities.
