EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP TRUST
Hardscape Products Ltd, founded in 1992 by Mathew Haslam, became an Employee-Owned business in July 2022. This has created an enduring ownership structure with tangible employee benefits, resulting in a long-term strategic view and increased business investment, for the benefit of our customers and business partners.

ISO 9001:2015
ISO 9001:2015 has become the International reference for quality requirements with certification, the preferred solution for over half a million organisations in at least 159 countries. Focus on quality is important in sustaining long term business success and Hardscape’s commitment to high standards was initially rewarded in December 2006 with an internationally recognised quality management system (QMS) Standard in ISO 9001:2008.
This industry standard accreditation, from a reputable provider, sets out a clear demonstration and intent of Hardscape’s responsibilities towards quality management systems and processes. In line with the criteria for accreditation, annual assessment audits are carried out to continually refine our procedures and processes.
ISO 14001:2015
Hardscape invested heavily in 2015/2016 installing an Integrated Management System to cover all of our core businesses processes, in order to provide high customer service levels whilst considering the environment in everything that we do.
Our efforts have seen us achieve ISO 9001 and in November 2016 the 14001:2015 UKAS accreditation via externally audited independent inspections, of which we are extremely proud.
In order to achieve this, organisations must demonstrate that they have systems in place to help minimise any negative effects to the environment, comply with any applicable legislation and regulations, and continually improve in everything that they do in relation to environmental matters.

The Stone Federation of Great Britain
Hardscape are members of the Stone Federation GB who are the official trade association for the natural stone industry. We are also representative on the Landscape Forum whereby the group is made up of members working within the landscape sector of the natural stone industry. The Forum’s regular contributors include British and international quarry operators and stone suppliers as well as sealant and mortar manufacturers. This mix of companies brings a wide-ranging expertise to the Forum and enables us to ensure that we are resourcing and promoting this sector of the membership effectively.
The Federation co-ordinates all aspects of the industry and provides specifiers and users with a first point of contact for information, advice and guidance in sourcing an appropriate material and a reliable service. The Stone Federation represents employers, liaises with government on legal affairs, health and safety, technical standards, craftsmanship, training and education. Stone Federation GB provides a one-stop shop for product information, technical guidance and advice on all aspects of specifying and working with stone.
Responsible Sourcing Pledge
As part of Hardscape’s commitment to the ethical and sustainable sourcing of natural stone we have signed up to the Stone Federation’s Responsible Sourcing Pledge.
The Responsible Sourcing Pledge is an opportunity for Stone Federation members, architects and major contractors alike to demonstrate their commitment to the issues of ethical and sustainable sourcing of natural stone.
As part of the Responsible Sourcing Pledge, The Stone Federation GB are encouraging all members to commit to their Sustainability Statement and to start their journey on the Ethical Stone Register.
The statement reads as follows:
“As part of our commitment to the ethical and sustainable sourcing of materials, we are adding our name to the Stone Federation Responsible Sourcing Pledge. We are committed to adhering to the Stone Federation Sustainability Statement and starting our journey on the Ethical Stone Register.”
The issues of ethical and sustainable sourcing require the commitment of the whole supply chain, which is why the Responsible Sourcing Pledge is aimed at materials suppliers, specifiers, consultants and contractors.
Find out more about the Pledge and how to get involved.
The Ethical Stone Register
We are members of the Stone Federation of Great Britain and have demonstrated our commitment to the Stone Federation Responsible Sourcing Pledge and Sustainability Statement, by proudly adding our name to the Ethical Stone Register.
There are three tiers of membership of the Register, Declaration, Verification and Accreditation and the requirements of each level are explained here.
THE CLIMATE PLEDGE
At Hardscape we believe that climate change demands urgent and universal action. The Hardscape Group is proud to sign The Climate Pledge. We stand with the other signatories of The Climate Pledge, in a commitment to being net zero carbon by 2040 at the latest across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 — ten years ahead of The Paris Agreement. In addition, as a signatory of The Climate Pledge, Hardscape will:
- Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.
- Implement decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business change and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.
- Take actions to neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.
The Climate Pledge is a commitment to net zero carbon by 2040 that forms a cross-sector community of companies and organisations, working together to crack the climate crisis and solve the challenges of decarbonising our economy. The Climate Pledge was co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019.
By joining The Climate Pledge, Hardscape are reinforcing their commitment to sustainability and are excited to join a community that will share knowledge, ideas and best practices.
SCIENCE BASED TARGETS INITIATIVE
At Hardscape we believe that climate change demands urgent and universal action. The Hardscape Group is proud to be joining more than 2,000 businesses working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce their emissions in line with climate science.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets.
The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
The latest climate science sends a clear warning that we must dramatically curb temperature rise to avoid the catastrophic impacts of climate change. Science-based targets show companies how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change.
The SBTi is the lead partner of the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign – an urgent call to action from a global coalition of UN agencies, business and industry leaders, mobilising companies to set net-zero science-based targets in line with a 1.5°C future.
The Hardscape Group has committed to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 46% by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and to also measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.
Hardscape’s net-zero science-based targets have been independently approved and validated through the SBTi using the target validation route exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

CONSTRUCTIONLINE
The construction sector has an important role to play in supporting local economies, and many organisations have a desire to work with local suppliers to support the communities in which they operate. Constructionline conducts verification checks for all the suppliers on their platform, so procurement teams can be sure that they are working with approved and accredited partners. In turn, local suppliers have access to a much broader range of projects in their area via the Constructionline platform.
The Common Assessment Standard, developed by Build UK, is a standardised pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) for the construction sector. PAS 91 is a common minimum requirement for construction procurement. With our Gold membership, Hardscape has gone above and beyond PAS 91 with our verified procedures. PAS 91 has now been withdrawn by the BSI, and is no longer endorsed by the UK Government, where the Common Assessment Standard is preferred.
The Common Assessment Standard also asks a more detailed set of pre-qualification questions for construction projects. The result is a greater level of quality and safety for building projects, aligned and recognised as sufficient for CHAS, Constructionline, and Achilles verifications.
SSIP ACCLAIM
SSIP was founded in May 2009 following the Government report on Accelerating the SME economic engine: through transparent, simple and strategic procurement. Supported by the HSE SSIP aims to streamline prequalification and encourage straightforward mutual recognition between its Member Schemes.
SSIP is committed to ensure reduction in health and safety assessment costs and bureaucracy in the supply chain, by making cross-recognition between member schemes as effective as possible.
Hardscape have been verified to hold SSIP status via Acclaim on the Constructionline platform and have been awarded accordingly with a Certificate of Health & Safety Accreditation.
