THE CLIMATE PLEDGE
At Hardscape we believe that climate change demands urgent and universal action.
The Hardscape Group is proud to sign The Climate Pledge. We stand with the other signatories of The Climate Pledge, in a commitment to being net zero carbon by 2040 at the latest across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 — ten years ahead of The Paris Agreement. In addition, as a signatory of The Climate Pledge, Hardscape will:
- Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.
- Implement decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business change and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.
- Take actions to neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.
The Climate Pledge is a commitment to net zero carbon by 2040 that forms a cross-sector community of companies and organisations, working together to crack the climate crisis and solve the challenges of decarbonising our economy. The Climate Pledge was co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019.
By joining The Climate Pledge, Hardscape are reinforcing their commitment to sustainability and are excited to join a community that will share knowledge, ideas and best practices.
SCIENCE BASED TARGETS INITIATIVE
At Hardscape we believe that climate change demands urgent and universal action. The Hardscape Group is proud to be joining more than 2,000 businesses working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce their emissions in line with climate science.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets.
The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
The latest climate science sends a clear warning that we must dramatically curb temperature rise to avoid the catastrophic impacts of climate change. Science-based targets show companies how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change.
The SBTi is the lead partner of the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign – an urgent call to action from a global coalition of UN agencies, business and industry leaders, mobilising companies to set net-zero science-based targets in line with a 1.5°C future.
The Hardscape Group has committed to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 46% by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and to also measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.
Hardscape’s net-zero science-based targets have been independently approved and validated through the SBTi using the target validation route exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Responsible Sourcing Pledge
As part of Hardscape’s commitment to the ethical and sustainable sourcing of natural stone we have signed up to the Stone Federation’s Responsible Sourcing Pledge.
The Responsible Sourcing Pledge is an opportunity for Stone Federation members, architects and major contractors alike to demonstrate their commitment to the issues of ethical and sustainable sourcing of natural stone.
As part of the Responsible Sourcing Pledge, The Stone Federation GB are encouraging all members to commit to their Sustainability Statement and to start their journey on the Ethical Stone Register.
The statement reads as follows:
“As part of our commitment to the ethical and sustainable sourcing of materials, we are adding our name to the Stone Federation Responsible Sourcing Pledge. We are committed to adhering to the Stone Federation Sustainability Statement and starting our journey on the Ethical Stone Register.”
The issues of ethical and sustainable sourcing require the commitment of the whole supply chain, which is why the Responsible Sourcing Pledge is aimed at materials suppliers, specifiers, consultants and contractors.
The Ethical Stone Register
The Ethical Stone Register is a unique resource created specifically for the natural stone industry, in response to The Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the issues of sourcing materials responsibly. The project allows natural stone company members, whatever their size, to offer a responsible and manageable ethical sourcing solution to their clients.
There are three tiers of membership of the Register, Declaration, Verification and Accreditation and the requirements of each level are explained here.
International Organisation for Standardisation
Hardscape is committed to producing quality products, whilst minimising our environmental impact. To this end we operate an Integrated Management System which is externally certified by a UKAS approved accreditation panel to ISO 14001:2015 (Environment).
We are committed to preventing pollution, promoting sustainable resource use and to complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and other environmental requirements. We regularly evaluate the environmental impact of our activities, products and services and take action to continually improve our environmental performance. We do so by defining environmental targets and regularly evaluating their progress.
We are committed to providing relevant environmental training and promoting environmental awareness to our employees, and all relevant stake holders, and communicating our environmental performance with them. This concern for our environment runs right through the organisation from recycling the water in our saw production, to managing our waste streams, to offering products that have high degrees of recycled content like our Kellen CERO range.
Environmental Product Declarations
What are EPD’s?
An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of a specific product.
Hardscape are requesting product specific EPD’s from their supply chain partners and are collating and logging the key data from these, along with providing this information to our Clients on request.
