Broomielaw is a major thoroughfare in the City of Glasgow, UK. It runs adjacent to the River Clyde, on its North Bank through the International Financial Services District. Clyde Waterfront is a strategic partnership comprising the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow City, Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire Councils. 

This high-profile project successfully regenerated previously run–down areas on both banks of the River Clyde with its purpose to promote the economic, social and environmental regeneration of 13 miles of the River Clyde from Glasgow city centre to Dumbarton. The area featured was along the Clyde Waterfront between Anderson Quay and Clyde Street. 

The public realm spaces accommodate multiple user requirements from access by foot or by cycle and provide opportunities to sit and eat lunch or merely observe the life of the city. Some 13,800m2 of Linear Parks were created in the public realm works using Royal White, Kobra and Portington Black granite setts and Italian Prima Porphyry violet mix paving. 

Landscape Institute CPD Event – Natural Capital: Rural and Urban, Glasgow

The Landscape Institute CPD Glasgow event “Natural capital: Rural and urban” took place in March 2019 and invited experts to present, via seminars and workshops, their perspectives on natural capital and how to utilise it in practices. 

Hardscape’s Aidan Baun and Atkins’ Stephen Bacon led a site visit down to Broomielaw to view the 10-year-old scheme and to see how the natural landscape materials had ‘stood the test of time’ and learn more about the initial design concepts and overall delivery of the project with all the collaborative contributors.
