The 2017 Civic Trust Awards Ceremony took place on Friday 10th March 2017 at The Guildhall Winchester, supported by Winchester City Council, The Guildhall and Visit Winchester. Hardscape were proudly associated as suppliers of hard landscaping materials to four winning projects:
1. Heart of the Campus, Nottingham Trent University:
This project received a Commendation and the scheme involved rebuilding the centre of the Clifton campus with two new buildings and a new triangular ‘piazza’ with Hardscape supplying Kellen Lavaro Wit and Grijs paving and Neland Rosa clay pavers to the scheme working with Re-Form Landscape Architecture and paving contractors D J Swallow Ltd. The buildings opened on Monday 21 September 2015.
2. Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool
This project received a Commendation. The new children’s hospital was completely rebuilt to integrate both hospital and park environments for the therapeutic benefit of the children requiring treatment. Hardscape worked in close partnership with contractors Laing O’Rourke and architects BDP to advise and supply Kellen Lavaro Rood and Oranje paving materials for the entire outside areas, designed to offer patients and visitors a warm and welcoming space.
3. Wirral Metropolitan College, Wirral
This project received a Commendation. The building and surrounding landscaping showcases exemplary workmanship with successful collaboration between Peel Holdings, Wirral Metropolitan Council and the design team including BCA Landscape, Liverpool. Hardscape supplied Double Excel Metal-Edged slabs and Kellen Breccia Tagenta D paving.
4. HOME, First Street, Manchester
This project received a Special Award. HOME, Manchester’s centre for international contemporary art, theatre and film, has become a catalyst for the developments around First Street, giving the city a new cultural epicentre. The new arts centre is a tribute to good design and patient planning of a new home for the arts in Manchester. Hardscape worked with Planit-IE landscape architects to supply Magma flamed and Yellow Rock bush-hammered granite paving and the same mix including Violet Pearl and Cloudy Violet granite setts and Kobra corduroys and steps with magma granite inserts.
